Zoning Board of Adjustment

Zoning was first adopted in Meredith in 1971. It is required by statute that the zoning ordinance provide for the establishment of a Zoning Board off Adjustment (ZBA). The ZBA is a volunteer land use board appointed by the Board of Selectmen. The ZBA consists of five (5) regular members plus alternate members, the members of which must be residents of Meredith.

The board has several statutory responsibilities including:

  1. Hear and decide appeals if it is alleged there is error in any order, requirement, decision, or determination made by an administrative official in the enforcement of the zoning ordinance;
  2. Hear and decide requests for variance from the terms of the zoning ordinance;
  3. Hear and decide requests for special exception as provided for in the zoning ordinance.
